Data comes live from NYC Open Data: HPD violations, complaints, registrations, litigation, bedbug filings, vacate orders, the Alternative Enforcement Program and the Certification of No Harassment list; DOB complaints, violations, ECB violations and boiler inspections; DOHMH rodent inspections; 311 service requests; the Speculation Watch List; DOI marshal evictions; DCP PLUTO; and NYC Planning's GeoSearch.

Comparisons use a random sample of 220 NYC buildings with three or more apartments (90 for noise and rats), drawn in October 2026. “The block” means everything within 150 meters, about a block in each direction.

HPD records mainly cover rental buildings with three or more units. Co-ops, condos and small homes may show little or nothing. A clean record is a good sign, not a guarantee.
